Vanderslice Committee

Organized in 1963, the Vanderslice Committee is a volunteer support organization of the Kansas City Art Institute. The committee raises funds for the beautification and restoration of historic Vanderslice Hall, the college's main administrative building. The historic mansion dates to 1896 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Vanderslice Committee meets on the third Tuesday of each month from September to May, excluding January. Holiday and spring luncheons are held in December and May, respectively. Many friendships are formed through working together on a common goal at monthly meetings and in preparation for the annual fundraising event. Additionally, members develop a special bond to the Art Institute and for the support of the students.

For 44 years, the Vanderslice Committee hosted the Vanderslice Kitchens and Homes Tour around the greater Kansas City metropolitan area. In 2009, the committee decided to embark on other fundraising opportunities and hosted the "Welcome to Nutterland" party at the home of Jim and Sonya Nutter. Another party is currently in the planning stages for the spring of 2011.
