The AACS library has resources on every aspect of academic and career development. The library includes graduate school catalogs; periodicals and journals; information on internships, residencies, assistantships and fellowships; and career resource books. Topics include career exploration, landing a job, marketing your work, finances, business development, travel, owning and operating an art gallery and more.
The AACS provides resources for students to find art-related employment. AACS staff maintains an opportunities list posted here, and job postings by category are available as well. During one-on-one sessions, advisors work with students to perfect their resume, write a persuasive cover letter and develop strategies for meeting their career goals.
KCAI alumni are an integral part of the career services program. New alumni may continue to avail themselves of professional development opportunities, including application assistance for graduate school, career advising, advice on networking strategies, exploring entrepreneurship and business creation. Alumni also come back to campus to share career information and insights with current students, offering them opportunities to network and gain valuable contact information. Often these relationships lead to internships and even jobs for KCAI students.
The AACS publishes a weekly creative opportunities and career listing with employment, freelance, volunteer and RFQ listings* for students and alumni. Download the current creative opportunities list here. Download the current career list here.
*Please note that the Kansas City Art Institute Office of Academic Advising and Career Services frequently receives unsolicited employment and volunteer opportunities and posts those that might be of interest to students and alumni in the Opportunities List. The AACS in no way can or does investigate the character or reliability of the listing employers. We thus strongly encourage applicants to screen potential employers and the opportunities listed carefully with the understanding that it is the applicant and not Kansas City Art Institute that is responsible for disputes of any kind with the listing employers. Questions should be addressed to the AACS.

Often KCAI students are interested in submitting work for competitions, grants and exhibitions. AACS staff members provide students with information on a variety of competitions and fellowships through daily deadlines on the department's Facebook page and the KCAI Case Study Blog. AACS staff can assist students in developing their proposals for these opportunities and how to professionally approach an exhibition venue.
