2008 Vanderslice Kitchens and Homes Tour

The 43rd annual Vanderslice Kitchens and Homes Tour will be held on Wednesday, May 14 from 10am to 6pm. The tour features homes in Kirkwood, the Sulgrave, Wornall Park and 4646 Broadway just north and south of the Country Club Plaza. The patrons party will be held Monday, May 12, in the Kirkwood green space and is underwritten by Kirkwood.

This year, the Vanderslice Committee is featuring a tour of condos in the Country Club Plaza area. Condos are booming in Kansas City. Whether looking to downsize or get closer to the urban action, people of all ages are leaving behind the picket fence for a highrise view.

Kirkwood

4900 Central- Gary Seaton moved from the suburbs to the Plaza two years ago and loves it. There's no need to wonder why when you step into his condo. With the largest outdoor terrace in Kirkwood running the length of his condo and his large windows showing about every angle you need to see, the condo feels huge with no sacrifice of space. Of course, the 11 foot high ceilings don't hurt either.

Halls, Inc. will be providing the tablescape in the home. It promises to be a beautiful display accented by the custom designed dining table and chairs. Mr. Seaton bought and designed his condo before it was built, which allowed him to use the materials he desired for his home. His bathroom is virtually indestructible featuring venetian plaster and granite surfaces.

Mr. Seaton's artwork collection spans a lifetime of collecting. His beautiful bronze Diana, goddess of the harvest, graces the living room with her watchful gaze. Items can be found from all over the country in Mr. Seaton's home.

The Sulgrave

200 W. 49th St.- Bill Brimacombe loves his Plaza lifestyle. While most envy the Penthouse view, Bill relishes his ground floor oasis- and for good reason. It's not hard to see why with his expansive home and even larger private gardens. Who would have thought such lovliness was hidden just a few yards away? Guests will appreciate the English-Tudor style of the condo complete with wood paneling and a cast limestone fireplace mantle.

The condo features an open floorplan and spacious kitchen. Those features with the outdoor kitchen and large garden provide the perfect place for entertaining.

4646 Broadway

7th Floor- This model condo is a fabulous example of streamlined minimalist modern living. The elevator opens into the full-floored condo for a 360° view of the neighborhood. No neighbors to worry about here, though. With 10 foot ceilings, glass windows at every turn and concete separating you from those above and below, it's a private oasis above the street noise below.

Wornall Park

Located at 45th and Wornall, this Frank Lloyd Wright inspired gem just north of the Country Club Plaza features spacious living with a cozy feel. This model condo features beautiful Amish woodwork, a large outdoor living space, and every comfort any city dweller would want.

Vanderslice Kitchens and Homes Tour Patron Party

The Vanderslice Kitchens and Homes Tour patron party was held Monday, May 12th at the Kirkwood Green. It was a lovely outdoor event with flowers in bloom and the setting sun with a fountain in the middle of everything. Guests raved over the fabulous dinner provided by Jeffrey Troiola of the Carriage Club.

The David Basse Trio kept everyone lively whether they were sitting for the caracature artist, watching the mime's antics, or visiting with friends. The silent auction tables were not to be missed! The highlight of the evening came when Steve Johnson of Kirkwood presented Kansas City Art Institute President Kathleen Collins with a check for $15,000. The money was donated for the continued mission of the Vanderslice Committee: the renovation and restoration of Vanderslice Hall built in 1892, the main administrative building on the KCAI campus. Pam Meeker, president of the Vanderslice Committee, thanked everyone for their involvement in making the evening a success.
