My KCAI Memory

Share your KCAI memory

It's been a long time! Yep, 125 years to be exact.

The 125th anniversary is a wonderful opportunity for alumni to reflect on their college days and share these memories with the KCAI community. We encourage you to e-mail us a response or responses to the following questions, or you can send a special memory of your own choosing. Stories will be shared online and in future alumni publications. If you’d like to submit an image, please email it to alumni@kcai.edu, along with your name and dates of attendance.

We want to jog your memory...

It's a long survey, we know, but please take your time and stroll down memory lane (Warwick blvd to be precise) and fill out your responses to the questions that spark your recollection. Odds are many people have similar stories from different viewpoints about great events in KCAI history.

Please enter the years you attended the school (ex. 1993-97.)

We need a verb, a noun and a— Ok, just kidding. It's not really a game of Mad Libs, you can use more than three if you like. Be creative (we know you are.)

Your teachers...

Educational:
"intended or serving to educate or enlighten."

Remember that Foundations teacher? Or the year you had to paint a self-portrait everyday for a month? Or that small corner studio in the Painting building? Or the internship where you spent your Friday afternoons? We want to know about the non-stop drawing sessions, the Liberal Arts paper you thought you'd never finish, or any assignments that rocked your world (and ruined your beauty sleep.)Tell us how the teachers and the classroom environment at KCAI made an impression on you.

Your classmates...

Social:
"of or relating to society or it's organization."

Here you met people from all walks of life- the outlandish, the inspiring, the fun and the sensible. We know that two or three all-nighters in a studio creates bonds stronger than the duct tape we used on our last minute projects. Tell us about your friends, who did you meet and how have you kept in touch?

Be it email, Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Linked IN, or — oh yeah! — telephones and letters! Communication is an art: we want to know your style of keeping in touch and with whom.

Did you meet the love of you life here at KCAI? Get married? Partner up? Who is he or she and how did you meet?

The dorms, the cafe, the lawn, the library, the hall way between Photo and Printmaking? What corner niche of campus you did you spend your time here?

(We promise we won't tell mom.)

Those larger life lessons...

Transformative:
"make a thorough or dramatic change in the form or character of,"

It's not just about Nitzche and Nauman. The degree ends after four years, but the life experiences -like those paint marks on you overalls - will stay forever. What are some of the larger life lessons you learned here at KCAI?

Technical, spiritual, psychological, or whatever. Tell us, what was the hardest lesson you learned at the Art Institute.

Have anything more too add? Feel free to elaborate here. Freestyle poetry or prose, have at it. We want to know.
