Work-Study Program

The Artspace is truly a unique model, focusing on dynamic contemporary art, contemporary discourse and innovative curatorial practice, strategies in visual art education and professional development for emerging artists and arts professionals.
As a teaching museum, the Artspace offers a range of related educational opportunities that allow students to gain critical insight to careers in the field and practical hands-on experience in a museum setting.
In addition to Academic Internships, the Artspace also offers opportunities for KCAI students to work as Gallery Assistants for the federally funded Work-Study Program at KCAI. Gallery Assistants are primarily responsible for monitoring the gallery, working at the reception desk and greeting each visitor, answering general and specific questions, conducting gallery tours, assisting with gallery preparation and installation, and assisting with office administration. Often, Gallery Assistants stay on staff for the duration of their time at KCAI. Working as a Gallery Assistant can also lead to an Academic Internship at the Artspace during the student’s senior year, as well as extended work opportunities or a professional internship at the Artspace after graduation.
Students interested in applying for the Work-Study program can make an appointment with the Office of Financial Aid and submit a resume and letter of interest with three references to the Artspace staff.
