Block Internship

Block Intern

During the academic year 2004-2005, the Artspace initiated the Block Internship with important financial support from the H&R Block Foundation.

The Block Internship provides a professional, paid internship opportunity for a young, aspiring art professional to gain critical professional experience and job skills that augment the academic preparation received at the Kansas City Art Institute and help prepare them for a promising future. It also provides critical staff support that enables the Artspace to more fully realize its mission as a unique contemporary art institution focused on both visual art and visual art education. Block Interns work closely with Artspace staff to provide mentorship to work-study assistants and academic interns and are involved in all aspects of the Artspace program, including exhibitions, education programs, outreach, collection management, and educational opportunities for students.

Academic Internship

The Artspace provides extraordinary educational and professional opportunities for students at the Kansas City Art Institute, including Academic Internships for outstanding students at KCAI. Academic Interns are required to assist with various projects and provide support for different areas of the Artspace under close supervision of senior Artspace staff. Areas of focus for Academic Interns include assistance with stewardship of the permanent collection of art at the Kansas City Art Institute, research assistance for main gallery exhibitions, and advanced administrative support including maintenance of the Artspace Resource Collection, exhibition archives, and permanent collection files.

An independent curatorial project culminates the Academic Internship. Academic Interns are expected to have a strong background in Art History, preferably pursuing a double major in Art History at KCAI, and should have prior experience working with art objects and/or collections.

Academic Internships are organized through Career Services at KCAI. All applicants must also formally apply and be interviewed by senior Artspace staff. Contact Career Services for more information.
