Born in Veerssen, Germany, Kloppmann came to the United States in 1984 and has been a full-time studio artist in Minneapolis since 2002.

Known for both steel and ceramic sculpture, Small maintains studios in both the United States and China.

The party will include a birthday cake in the shape of Vanderslice Hall, period costumes modeled by members of KCAI’s auxiliaries and the burial of a time capsule created by four KCAI sculpture students.

The opening reception will be held in conjunction with KCAI's Alumni Weekend.

“(Re)Form” explores recent work by graduates of the KCAI ceramics program from the late 1960s to the present.

Curated by Catherine L. Futter, the Helen Jane and R. Hugh “Pat” Uhlmann Curator of Decorative Arts at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, the exhibition will include pieces primarily in ceramics that have been completed in the last two years and display a wide range of perspectives.

The artists invited to participate in the exhibition include well-known, mid-career and emerging artists who offer a variety of viewpoints — from the vessel and functional work to sculptures, installations and performance art.

The exhibit runs through Dec. 18.

"It's A-LIVE," a world premiere by Mauricio Saiguero and his troupe of performers improvising experimental soundtracks to animation and video works created by Liz Van Verth and Caitlin Horsmon. In addition, the evening will feature performances of electroacoustic pieces and videos from composers Christopher Biggs, Andrew Cole and Mark Snyder.

The ArtSounds performance takes place at 7:30 p.m. in Epperson Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

"Current Perspectives" lecture with Akio Takamori ('76 ceramics)

Takamori was born in Nobeoka, Japan and studied at the Musashino Art University in Tokyo before apprenticing with a traditional folk potter in Koishiwara, Japan. He currently is a professor of art in the ceramics department at the University of Washington.
