Camnitzer is professor emeritus at SUNY College in Old Westbury, N.Y., as well as pedagogical curator for the Ibere Camargo Foundation in Porto Alegre, Brazil. An international critic and theorist, he is a frequent contributor to "ArtNexus" and author of "New Art of Cuba" as well as "Conceptualism in Latin American Art: Didactics of Liberation." Karen Kice, who holds a B.F.A. degree in ceramics and art history from KCAI, will give the Distinguished Alumni presentation tonight as the culmination of the 2012-2013 Current Perspectives lecture series. Her appearance is sponsored by the H&R Block Artspace at KCAI.

In addition to her degree from KCAI, she earned a master of science degree in architectural history and theory from The Bartlett School of Architecture at University College London. From 2010 to 2012, she studied architecture and urban design in the Ph.D. program at the University of California-Los Angeles, where she was a senior research associate at UCLA's cityLAB, an urban think-tank.

Currently she serves as the Neville Bryan assistant curator in the department of architecture and design at the Art Institute of Chicago, where her work focuses on conteporary architecture and urbanism. She has a particular interest in the influence of the political economy on the built environment and the role of branding, identity and mobility in architecture.

Her presentation will take place in Epperson Auditorium, which is located in Vanderslice Hall on the KCAI campus. The event is free and open to the public.

A variety of activities for KCAI faculty, staff and students will be held on the campus today in honor of Field Day:

11 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Lunch in the cafeteria; Cake walk on Vanderslice patio (will be relocated to Vanderslice reception room if inclement weather) – $1 to enter, all funds go towards the 2013 ArtsKC fund.

1 p.m. – Ice cream truck

The soccer tournament on the campus green has been rescheduled for Sunday, April 28 at 4 p.m.

Evening events – Doors open at 8:30 p.m. and the show begins at 9 p.m. in the Epperson Auditorium:
The festivities will continue into the evening with performances by Whoop Dee Doo and the KCAI Majesty competition – Open to all KCAI students. This event will consist of a runway show, a talent competition, skits and contests. The show will transition into a dance party, lasting until midnight.
