Degree Classes for the Community

The Kansas City Art Institute invites the community and visiting students to take our degree classes offered during the college's winter and summer intersessions. These specialized, focused classes offer an intense experience to learn more about a particular studio practice or an area of the liberal arts. 

Who can enroll?

• Adults 18 years old and up who are ready for an intense and fantastic art experience
• Visiting students from other colleges (confirm with your college that credit will transfer before enrolling)
• High school students ages 16 and up who are willing to meet the expectations of a college course

Registration and tuition

• Courses cost $425 per credit hour. Classes are three credit hours each for a total of $1,275.
• Studio courses require an additional material fee (based on each course) and a studio fee of $34/credit hour. Students taking the course for credit will be graded and can get a KCAI transcript for $5 upon request. Non-degree students may choose to audit our liberal arts classes for no credit for a flat fee of $500.
• If a KCAI degree student needs to take a course and the course is full, a non-degree student will be bumped and a full refund will be given.
• Payment for any degree classes is due in full at the time of enrollment.

Library and computer access

Refund schedule

KCAI has adopted the following withdrawal policy to establish charges based on the amount of time completed in the enrollment period. All students who withdraw from KCAI during an intersession will be charged a $35 administrative fee per course. Studio and materials fees are not refunded.

Liberal arts refund policy (16 class meetings): 

100% refund if withdrawn on or before first day of class
90% refund if withdrawn during classes one through two
50% refund if withdrawn during classes three through four
25% refund if withdrawn during classes five through eight
No refund after class eight.

Studio refund policy (25 class meetings):

100% refund if withdrawn on or before first day of class
90% refund if withdrawn during classes one through three
50% refund if withdrawn during classes four through six
25% refund if withdrawn during classes seven through 12
No refund after class 12.

All tuition will automatically be refunded within four weeks if a class is canceled due to low enrollment.
