Work Study Programs

Interested in Work-Study? Lets get started.

All full time enrolled students at Kansas City Art Institute are eligible to work on campus, however you must be awarded work-study. Positions are limited and on-campus jobs are not guaranteed. Here is some basic information that explains something about the work-study program on our campus.

  • The initial pay rate is $7.25/hour. (A $0.25 raise is given after each academic year that a student works.)
  • Students typically work no more than 5-8 hours per week.
  • Students are paid on the 27th of each month.

Student Employment (Work-Study) Procedures

Once you have been awarded work-study funds, please follow these steps:

  • Click Work Study Positions link to view the listing of current job openings on campus.
  • Contact the supervisor listed for the position of interest by phone or email.
  • Schedule an interview with the supervisor.
  • Once selected for the work-study position, see Ivori Smith in the Financial Aid office for paperwork.

Do not be discouraged if few jobs are available the first time you contact the supervisors. Many departments do not know what openings they have until the semester begins. Also, students will sometimes accept a job, but then after the first few weeks of the semester discover that the job does not fit in their schedules. Check with the supervisors often to see if new positions have opened up.

Also, be proactive in your job search. If you see a department on campus that you think you would like to work for, talk with them and let them know you are interested in a job. Perhaps they will have an opening in the near future and will remember your interest.

To finish the hiring process, all students will need to come to Financial Aid and complete the following paperwork (available for download on the right hand side of this page):

  • Federal W-4
  • MO W-4
  • Student Employment Referral Form (once the student is placed in a position)

You must complete the W-4s and I-9 before you begin a job or you will not receive a paycheck.
