School of the Foundation Year

Based in its own building, the traditional two-semester foundation year is fundamental to all majors. Through experimentation with visual language, form-making, project-based learning and a range of increasingly difficult exercises, the foundation experience leads to a deepening awareness and understanding of basic artistic and design-based principles.  The student's future life as an artist or creative professional is based upon these principles.  The use of computers to develop digital approaches is highly encouraged for all students.
