Communications assistant

The Kansas City Art Institute, a national leader in visual arts education, is seeking nominations and applications for the position of communications assistant.
Reporting to the vice president for communications, the assistant will assist the vice president and the communications manager with a wide range of communication functions, including assistance with day-to-day operations within the department. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: copy writing of news releases, simple ads and articles for internal publications; media relations; internal communications, including assistance with bi-weekly e-mail newsletter; and ongoing activities such as monthly clip reports and updating news release, clipping and photography binders. This position requires excellent writing skills, results orientation and the ability to focus and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, creative environment. Some graphic design ability is preferred, including experience with Quark Xpress and Photoshop. A bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in journalism, English, public relations or a related field. One to three years of related work experience is preferred.
The position will pay an annual salary in the mid 20s and carries the standard benefit package including three weeks annual vacation and a liberal holiday schedule.
The Kansas City Art Institute is a four-year, private, independent and accredited college of art and design. Founded in 1885, the college is located in the cultural heart of metropolitan Kansas City, in immediate proximity to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art and the college’s H&R Block Artspace gallery. The college enrolls more than 660 undergraduate students drawn from throughout the United States and several other countries. The faculty is comprised of more than 40 practicing artists and scholars teaching full-time and an additional 30 part-time lecturers. A strong visiting artists and scholars program complements the academic program.
