Job Title
KCAI Crossroads Gallery Coordinator / Part-Time Position
KCAI Crossroads Gallery is a space in the Crossroads District (19th and Main) where students have the opportunity to exhibit their work in a group or solo exhibition. This position presents an excellent opportunity for a KCAI graduate to become engaged with gallery administration.
The KCAI Crossroads Gallery Coordinator is a part-time position responsible to the Associate Vice President for Student Achievement for providing assistance and supervision to the student artists whose work is selected for an exhibition at the gallery. The coordinator works closely with each artist or group of artists as they plan the installation of their show and prepare for the opening, which is always on a first Friday. A call for proposals is publicized each semester for the following semester’s exhibitions. Proposals are reviewed and selected for exhibition by a committee of the Faculty Assembly. During 2008-09, exhibitions will be scheduled for the following months: September, October, November, February, March, April, and May. The coordinator’s responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Communicate with the students selected for exhibition about their installation and de-installation dates and the guidelines for the gallery use.
- Work closely with the exhibiting students and the Communications Department to ensure that students order their postcards and signage in a timely manner.
- Train exhibiting students on all operations of the gallery, including the alarm code and the heating and cooling system for the building and proper opening and closing tasks.
- Staff every first Friday opening in the gallery and close the gallery that night, ensuring that proper opening and closing procedures are followed.
- Communicate with the exhibiting students the month before their show is installed.
- Communicate with the Associate Vice President about any issues related to the operation of the gallery.
- Communicate with Mr. Rick Solberg, owner of the space, regarding lighting needs for each exhibition and about any issues related to the facility.
Compensation for the position will be a total of $3500 for the management of all seven shows during the 2008-09 exhibition schedule. The coordinator will have full access to KCAI services on campus, including the Media Center, Wood Shop and computer labs provided access does not infringe on regular student usage.
B.F.A. required. The position will be filled by August 1st so the coordinator can begin communicating with students participating in the September show. Send or email letter of application, résumé, and the name of one faculty member we may contact as a reference. Send applications to:
