Fiber Department

Kansas City Art Institute, a national leader in visual arts education, seeks nominations and applications for two full-time special appointments at the rank of instructor or assistant professor in the college’s fiber department. These are one-year non-tenure track positions. The starting date is August 15, 2008.

The successful candidates will teach in a program that includes surface design, weaving, constructed textiles, fiber forms and clothing construction. There are three full-time faculty in the department working with nearly 50 full-time majors.

Teaching responsibilities of one position include all levels of surface design and computer-aided design.

Teaching responsibilities of the other position include all levels of clothing construction, sculptural processes such as basketry and fiber forms. Hand and machine knitting skills are desirable.

In addition both positions will be responsible for senior level seminars and professional practice.

Serious candidates should have a broad aesthetic approach to the field along with comprehensive knowledge of historical and contemporary developments. The MFA degree in textiles/fiber is required as well as prior college teaching experience or evidence of outstanding professional achievement.

Kansas City Art Institute is a four-year, private, independent and accredited college of art and design founded in 1885, and is located in the cultural heart of metropolitan Kansas City. The college enrolls over 650 undergraduate students drawn from throughout the United States and several other countries.
