Photography and Digital Filmmaking Department

Kansas City Art Institute, a national leader in visual arts education, is accepting nominations and applications for a full-time video instructor in the college’s Photography and Digital Filmmaking Department. The start date will be August 15th 2008 and the position is non-tenure track. This special appointment is a one-year position to be held while the college conducts a national search during 2008/2009 for appointment to the core faculty for 2009/2010. The special appointment will have opportunity to apply for the regular position, which is anticipated to go into affect beginning in the fall 2009.

The successful candidate will teach in a strongly innovative program emphasizing interdisciplinary and experimental approaches to art making and teaching. The appointee must have a thorough knowledge of video production techniques including off-line and digital non-linear editing with Final Cut Pro, audio editing and sound design with Pro Tools. Experience with computer-based art, multimedia authoring, and After/Effects is necessary. With grounding in history and contemporary art theory, the successful candidate will be capable of teaching introduction to video in the sophomore year, the Advanced Work-shops, Studio Seminars and electives.

The successful candidate must have demonstrated professional achievement, hold the MFA degree (or equivalent) and college level teaching experience. Women artists and artists’ diverse ethnicity are encouraged to consider this opportunity.
