Sculpture Special Appointment Instructor or Assistant Professor – 2008/2009 Academic Year

Kansas City Art Institute, a national leader in visual arts education, seeks nominations and applications a full-time special appointment at the rank of instructor or assistant professor in the college’s sculpture department. This is a one-year non-tenure track position. The starting date is August 15, 2008.

The successful candidate will have primary responsibility for teaching the department’s sophomore program that includes introduction to all gas and electric welding processes, woodworking techniques, and mold-making. Knowledge of metal casting techniques is also desired. Applicants should be well versed in contemporary issues, art theory, and practice, and must be prepared to present and discuss these issues with students on a regular basis. The M.F.A. or equivalent experience is required, and prior college level teaching experience is highly desirable.

As a full-time faculty member, the selected candidate will participate with two faculty colleagues in developing curriculum, critiquing student work, and ensuring the safety and proper use of the department’s equipment and facilities.

Kansas City Art Institute is a four-year, private, independent and accredited college of art and design founded in 1885, and is located in the cultural heart of metropolitan Kansas City. The college enrolls over 650 undergraduate students drawn from throughout the United States and several other countries.
