Special appointment - Foundation
Kansas City Art Institute, a national leader in visual arts education, is accepting nominations and applications for a fall 2010 sabbatical replacement.
In addition, we are accepting applications for a possible one-year appointment for 2010/2011 dependent on enrollment numbers.
Start dates would be mid to late August 2010.
The Art Institute prefers applicants with expertise in both of the following areas:
- Digital imaging/animation/video
- Traditional media/tactile/material sensibility and/or spatial/ environmental installation
We seek applicants who are experienced in and comfortable with a variety of creative and intellectual disciplines outside their primary area of commitment. Applicants must have the capacity and inclination to approach fundamental studio issues in the foundation program through a diversity of media, dimensions and concepts, but must be able to place a significant emphasis on digital applications.
The successful candidate must have demonstrated mature professional achievement, hold the M.F.A. degree and have college-level teaching experience. Women artists and artists of diverse ethnicity are especially encouraged to consider this opportunity.
The KCAI School of the Foundation Year is a year-long introductory studio program that consists of nine full-time faculty members and about 180 students and is housed in its own facility of approximately 17,000 square feet within the campus complex. The program has earned a national reputation for achievement and
introduces all entering students to an interdisciplinary, multi-media, highly interactive and multi-disciplinary approach to art and design fundamentals and visual literacy. The appointee will be required to work closely with current faculty to determine and deliver a range of unique responses to the curriculum structure.
Kansas City Art Institute is a four-year, private, accredited college of art and design. Founded in 1885, KCAI is located in the cultural heart of metropolitan Kansas City, in immediate proximity to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art. The college enrolls about 650 undergraduate students, drawn from throughout the United States and several other countries.
Applications will be received until the post is filled. However, applications received by Jan. 15, 2010, will be assured of being considered for an invitation to meet with KCAI representatives at the College Art Association Annual Conference in Chicago in February 2010.
Applicants should include a letter of application, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy, and a list of three references we may contact. Also include digitally-based examples of your own work and a self-addressed stamped envelope for return of materials. Finalists will be asked to submit transcripts to complete their application.
