Director of human resources
Status: Full-time exempt staff
Start date: Mid-January 2014
General Description: The director of human resources is responsible for providing leadership and strategic management in all human resource functions. The work of this position is critical to the success of the Kansas City Art Institute’s ability to recruit, hire and retain engaged faculty, staff and administrators.
Primary duties and responsibilities: Coordinate recruitment and hiring process; analyze and administer compensation and benefit programs; coordinate training and development programs; manage staff evaluation system; insure that KCAI complies with federal and state laws related to employment, including but not limited to the ACA and 403(b) retirement plan administration; facilitate communication between administrators and employees.
Requirements for the position: Ability to communicate well, both oral and written, with individuals of different levels of education, cultural background and experience; capable of effective priority setting; ability to resolve conflicts in a constructive manner; knowledge of all pertinent state and federal regulations; experience with implementing or managing an HRIS system; provide exemplary customer service; ability to maintain confidentiality; strong problem-solving skills.
Education and experience requirements: Bachelor’s degree required, master’s preferred in a relevant field, PHR or SPHR certificate preferred. Five to seven years of experience in human resources, including a minimum of three years in supervision or management; experience in higher education preferred.
