Full-time painting faculty
Kansas City Art Institute, a national leader in visual arts education, is seeking nominations and applications for a full-time faculty position in the college’s painting department. The appointment will be a one-year, non-tenure-track appointment. Rank and contract status to be determined. Starting date is Aug. 15, 2010.
Four years ago a new state-of-the-art painting facility was opened, which includes dedicated, individual studio space for students, gallery space, computer lab and media room. The facility supports high quality art practice and enhances the Art Institute’s pre-eminent painting major.
The successful candidate will teach in the department’s sophomore painting program and will also teach a drawing course to painting majors and students from other departments. We are looking for a candidate who has a broad understanding of material usage and is cognizant of the extensive nature of painting. We are interested in a candidate who can provide a broad-based platform for the practice and understanding of painting as a receptive tool for the 21st century, viewing painting as an agile discipline. Applicants should be well versed in contemporary issues, art theory and practice and must be prepared to discuss these issues with students on a regular basis. An M.F.A. degree and evidence of significant professional achievement are required. College-level teaching experience with full-time faculty status is also required.
Founded in 1885, Kansas City Art Institute is a four-year, independent and accredited college of art and design located in the cultural heart of metropolitan Kansas City. The college enrolls approximately 650 undergraduate students drawn from throughout the United States and several international countries.

The position is open until a suitable candidate is selected; however, applications received by Jan. 15, 2010, will be assured of consideration for being invited to meet with KCAI representatives at the College Art Association annual conference in Chicago in Feb. 2010.

Also include no more than 20 images of current work in slide format, CD or PowerPoint. Include a self-addressed stamped envelope for return of materials. Finalists will be asked to submit students' images to complete the application.
