Exhibition brings together ten artists from Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and the United States whose works investigate the transnational reach of globalization.
Working primarily in video, they project images that traverse national boundaries and highlight the confluence of cultures and technologies that mark our time. These artists engage globalism as lived experience, questioning tradition and modernity.

"Angels and Demons at Play"

Collaborators: Patrick Alonzo Conway, Penelope Hearne, Kalen Compernolle, Tuesday Faust, Dwight Frizzell, Allan Winkler, Emily Kissner, Rachael Shair, Gamelan Genta Kasturi and City in Motion Youth Group
"Angels and Demons at Play" is an interdisciplinary work involving dance, shadow puppets, electronic visual media and live music provided by members of Gamelan Genta Kasturi.
The music includes Gamelan Orchestra original compositions and use of western instruments.
The focus of this piece is the exploration of the interplay of positive and negative energetic forces using the vehicle of traditional Balinese dance drama, masked dance and shadow puppet theater as points of departure for the collaborators to create an original multi-media creative work.

Mosaka is curator of contemporary art at the Krannert Art Museum at the University of Illinois. Prior to joining KAM, he was the associate curator of exhibitions at the Brooklyn Museum. He is originally from Johannesburg, South Africa. Learn more.

Evans is an award-winning children’s book illustrator whose titles include “Osceola,” “The Way The Door Closes,” “Shaq and the Beanstalk” and “Take It To The Hoop Magic Johnson.”
His books have been featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Today Show, NBA Inside Stuff, Reading Rainbow and Late Night with David Letterman.
Evans has received The Boston Globe-Horn Book Award and The Orbis Pictus Award for Outstanding Non-Fiction for Children. He also was honored by First Lady Laura Bush at the 2002 National Book Festival.
This event, which is free and open to the public, celebrates Black History Month and is sponsored by Black Artists’ Culture and Community (BACC), a student organization at KCAI.
