Intended for the all ages, "The Big Draw (& Print)" is a family event hosted by the H&R Block Artspace at KCAI in conjunction with the "2012 Kansas City Flatfile" exhibition on view through Sept. 29. The event will feature two art-making sessions led by local artists, including “Exquisite Collage” and “Cut and Paste Gestalt,” an open drawing session and visiting artists from The Print Factory. All materials for the event are provided and admission is free and open to the public. ArtSounds kicks off its fall season at the Kansas City Art Institute with “The Goldberg Variations.” Collaborators Kairy Koshoeva and Jennifer Owen will present a concert and contemporary dance choreography to selections from “The Goldberg Variations” by J.S. Bach. The choreography, created for five dancers, will reflect the structure of the music with the intent of enhancing the experience of the patterns and harmonic progression of Bach’s work. H&R Block Artspace at the Kansas City Art Institute, in partnership with PUMA Creative, will host screenings of films4peace, an annual short film commission visually interpreting the subject of peace, through Dec. 12 in the Artspace Studio. The Artspace will join cultural institutions worldwide, from Australia to Zimbabwe, screening films4peace in recognition and celebration of World Peace Day. Films4peace is curated by Mark Coetzee and features 17 films by 21 international artists. Regular gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. School for Continuing and Professional Studies Invitational Exhibition

Today is the last day to see "2012 Kansas City Flatfile" at H&R Block Artspace at KCAI, 16 E. 43 St. The Flatfiles exhibition features two-dimensional artwork by Kansas City-based artists in media including drawing, photography, prints and mixed-media works on paper as well as time-based artwork in the “Videofile.” The invitational biennial exhibition provides visitors with a unique and intimate art viewing experience, encouraging viewers to browse through individual artist portfolios stored within flatfile cabinets, or select video works to screen in the “Videofile.” Regular gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
