Art History Symposium

The School of Liberal Arts will host an art history symposium at the H&R Block Artspace at KCAI. Three papers written by KCAI students have been selected through a juried process and will be presented at the symposium. Those presenting are Philip Bakala (senior, painting and art history), “Appropriation as Visual Discourse over Pictorial Genealogy and Subjective Interaction”; Kendell Harbin (senior, art history and printmaking minor), “How to Travel through an Entropic Landscape (and come out on the other side): An Essay on Robert Smithson’s ‘Tour of the Monuments of Passaic’”; and Hannah Lodwick (senior, painting and art history), “The Anthropomorphic Reification behind Lichtenstein’s ‘Brushstrokes.’” For more information, contact Rebecca Dubay, Ph.D., assistant professor of art history, at rdubay@kcai.edu.
Access Alumni Events Exhibition “Austerity Measures” closing reception
Author and poet Juliana Spahr is tonight's Current Perspectives lecturer. She is the Aurelia Henry Reinhardt chair of the English department at Mills College in Oakland, Calif. She is a National Poetry Series Award winner, a two-time winner of the Gertrude Stein Award in Innovative American Poetry and a four-time grant recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts.
The lecture will take place in Epperson Auditorium, which is located in Vanderslice Hall on the KCAI campus. The event is free and open to the public.

ArtSounds: A Day in the Park

Featuring poetry by Dina Von Zweck, music by Jorge Sosa and video by Jorge Sosa and Mauricio Niebla, "A Day in the Park" is a multimedia musical drama that reflects upon the Occupy Wall Street protests that took place in Zuccotti Park in New York in 2011. Mike Weikert is founder and director of two programs at the Maryland Institute College of Art: The master of arts in social design program and the Center for Design Practice. His appearance at KCAI is sponsored by KCAI's graphic design department.
In addition to his work at MICA, Weikert has his own design studio in Baltimore, Weikert Design, and serves as an advisor to Project M, an international social design initiative committed to helping young designers use their skills to create positive change in the world.
