Changes in the loan industry
As you have been informed previously by our enrollment management staff, there continues to be many changes in the student loan industry which may impact your student loans for the 2008-2009 school year. Here are a few examples of some recent changes:

  • The “Ensuring Continued Access to Student Loans Act of 2008” (H.R. 5715) enacted  May 7, 2008, added $2000 in additional unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loan eligibility for each undergraduate grade level.
  • Many of the Federal Stafford Loan lenders have changed borrower benefits:
    • They may no longer be in business or are no longer providing Stafford/PLUS loan programs.
    • They may be charging loan processing fees to the applicant.
    • They may be charging fees to the federal servicers who process the loans.
  • Many Private Loan lenders are:
    • No longer in business or are no longer providing private loan programs.
    • Changing the regulations in applying for a private loan

It is imperative for you to check to see if your lenders have changed their loan programs. Visit the Web address below to see a list of lenders and their changes. It is updated daily by Department of Education.
