Studio Art in Creative Writing

To enable students to link original writing and critical thinking with a solid appreciation and understanding of the liberal arts, while preserving a solid studio experience, KCAI has implemented a B.F.A. program in studio art with an emphasis in creative writing.

The program encourages contemplative, broadly educated artists whose training and work in visual media and literary genres will be mutually supportive. This program is structured to stimulate and enrich critical thinking, intellectual inquiry, research and analysis through a focus on cogent and powerful verbal expression.

On the premise that the visual arts and literary arts share the goal of accuracy of vision, this program is designed to foster in students facility in the cognate forms of verbal and visual creativity or a studio discipline and has been acredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.

Students can elect to pursue the B.F.A. degree in studio art with an emphasis in creative writing and a minor in a studio discipline within the presently required 129 credit hours.

The strength of the program lies in its interdisciplinary and multi-contextual nature in the context of a studio-based professional school of art and design.
