Kansas City Art Institute plans end-of-semester exhibition and sale

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (April 12, 2013) –– Students at the Kansas City Art Institute will exhibit and sell their work May 10-12 at the college’s end-of-semester exhibition and sale. The event takes place on the KCAI campus, 4415 Warwick Blvd. The exhibition and sale will include two- and three-dimensional work by students in most departments. Visitors are invited to visit studios located throughout the campus to browse and buy. The college offers majors in 13 areas of study: animation, art history, ceramics, creative writing, digital filmmaking, digital media, fiber, illustration, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture. 

The event begins with an open house from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. May 10 (Friday) and a 7 p.m. show hosted by digital filmmaking students in Epperson Auditorium. The exhibition and sale continue from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 11 (Saturday) and noon to 5 p.m. May 12 (Sunday). Not all of the work in the exhibition will be offered for sale, and in some cases buyers will not be permitted to remove the purchased work from the exhibition until Sunday. 

Other end-of-semester events at KCAI include: 

  • “2013 Annual B.F.A. Exhibition” April 20 through May 18 at the H&R Block Artspace at KCAI, 16 E. 43rd St. Gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. An opening reception will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. April 19, and a closing reception is set for 6 to 8 p.m. May 17. 
  • “Divergent Zones,” an exhibition of work by seniors majoring in illustration, from 5 to 9 p.m. May 10; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 11; and noon to 5 p.m. May 12 in the J&G Building, 324 E. 43rd St. 
  • “Pop,” an exhibition of work by seniors majoring in graphic design, from 6 to 9 p.m. May 9 and 5 to 8 p.m. May 10 in the Irving Building, 4410 Oak St., on the KCAI campus. 
  • The ninth annual KCAI animation “Frame by Frame Festival,” starting at 6 p.m. May 17 in Atkins Auditorium at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. The event is free and open to the public.
