Kansas City, Mo. (April 16, 2012) – From summer art camp for children to intensive workshops for art instructors, the School for Continuing and Professional Studies at the Kansas City Art Institute wants to help you get your art on, get down with your creative self and offer you an opportunity to be inspired and go from doodling to doing. Spring and summer classes are being offered for youth, high school students and adults, as well as intensive workshops for educators and certificate programs in graphic design and digital media.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (April 12, 2012) — Photographer and artist Andres Serrano will be the featured speaker at the Kansas City Art Institute’s 2012 commencement ceremony. The ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. May 12 at the Unity Temple on the Country Club Plaza, 707 W. 47th St. Approximately 110 seniors will receive their Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees from KCAI.

Serrano was born in 1950 in New York. He studied at the Brooklyn Museum Art School from 1967 to 1969 and currently lives and works in New York.

Kansas City, Mo. (March 30, 2012) – The Toy and Miniature Museum of Kansas City is partnering with the Kansas City Art Institute to offer a Master class in one of the fine-art world’s oldest mediums. “Master Class: Egg Tempera Techniques in Miniature” is a seven-day workshop that will be offered June 24-30 through the Continuing and Professional Studies Program at KCAI. The class will culminate in a reception at the Toy and Miniature Museum, where students will display work they created during the class.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (March 27, 2012) – Artwork by candidates for the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the Kansas City Art Institute will be on view in the “2012 B.F.A. Exhibition” from April 14 to May 12 at the H&R Block Artspace at KCAI, 16 E. 43rd St. A closing reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 11.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Feb. 16, 2012) — Ian Snyder, a junior majoring in printmaking and creative writing at the Kansas City Art Institute, is one of eight students from around the world to be named a Student Showcase winner for the 2012 Independent Games Festival. According to the IGF website, the awards celebrate “the brightest and most innovative creations to come out of universities and games programs from around the world in the past year.” There were 300 game entries in the student competition this year, encompassing all platforms from PC to console and mobile.
