KCAI and North Kansas City schools to offer dual-credit program in art

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Feb. 15, 2011) — The Kansas City Art Institute and the North Kansas City School district have joined together to provide dual-credit studio art classes for North Kansas City high school students. The program will launch this fall. It will be the first time KCAI has partnered with area high schools to offer a dual-credit program. 

Dr. Jacqueline Chanda named president of the Kansas City Art Institute

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Feb. 3, 2011) — Jacqueline Chanda, Ph.D., academic dean of the Institute for American Universities and director of the Aix Center in Aix-en-Provence in France, has been appointed president of the Kansas City Art Institute, effective July 1, L. William Zahner, chair of the KCAI board of trustees, announced today.
 

Sculptures by two KCAI students win Zahner competition

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Jan. 31, 2011) — Two Kansas City Art Institute students have won a competition to have their concepts for sculptures turned into reality this spring by the A. Zahner Company, a Kansas City-based firm that is internationally renowned for its expertise in the use of metal in the world of art and architecture.
 
The two works will be offered for sale June 4 at the college’s eighth biennial Art and Design Auction, a benefit for student scholarships at KCAI.

KCAI presents Art and Design Auction 2011

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Jan. 27, 2011) — On June 4, the Kansas City Art Institute will transform its campus at 4415 Warwick Blvd. into an art gallery to host its eighth biennial art and design auction. The festivities begin at 6 p.m., and proceeds benefit the college’s student scholarship fund.

KCAI and UMKC announce spring ArtSounds schedule

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Jan. 26, 2011) –– The Kansas City Art Institute and the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance announce the spring schedule of ArtSounds performances. ArtSounds is celebrating its fifth year of collaborative performances by composers, performers and visual artists.

Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 8, March 8 and April 12 in Epperson Auditorium in Vanderslice Hall on the KCAI campus, 4415 Warwick Blvd. An additional performance at 7:30 p.m. April 26 will take place at La Esquina, 1000 W. 25th St.

“On Screen: Global Intimacy” showing at H&R Block Artspace

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Jan. 25, 2011) –– “On Screen: Global Intimacy” opens with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 4 at the H&R Block Artspace at the Kansas City Art Institute, 16 E. 43rd St.. The exhibition is curated by guest curator Tumelo Mosaka and organized by the Krannert Art Museum, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. It will be on view through March 31.

“Global Intimacy” brings together 10 artists from Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and the United States whose works investigate the transnational reach of globalization.

KCAI to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Jan. 7, 2011) –– The Kansas City Art Institute will celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 17 in Epperson Auditorium, which is located in Vanderslice Hall on the KCAI campus, 4415 Warwick Blvd. The program is free and open to the public; however seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
