KCAI announces spring schedule for “Current Perspectives” public lectures

(Jan. 13, 2011) — The Kansas City Art Institute is pleased to announce the spring lineup of artists, designers and scholars who will speak as part of the college’s “Current Perspectives” lecture series. Unless otherwise noted, all lectures are free and will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursdays in Epperson Auditorium in Vanderslice Hall, 4415 Warwick Blvd., Kansas City, Mo. KCAI to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Jan. 7, 2011) –– The Kansas City Art Institute will celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 17 in Epperson Auditorium, which is located in Vanderslice Hall on the KCAI campus, 4415 Warwick Blvd. The program is free and open to the public; however seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Weekend program gives high school students a chance to experience college life

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Dec. 8, 2010) –– This March, high school students with a passion for art can spend a weekend on the campus of the Kansas City Art Institute and get a better feel for what it would be like to be a college student. They also will have a chance to study with emerging artists who are gaining a national profile in fields such as fashion and photography.

KCAI exhibition and sale spread holiday cheer

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Nov. 16, 2010) –– The Kansas City Art Institute’s end-of-semester exhibition and sale is a great shopping destination for holiday gifts. Original works of art in a variety of media created by student artists will be featured throughout the campus Dec. 3-5. The exhibition and sale will include two- and three-dimensional work by students in the departments of animation, ceramics, digital filmmaking, fiber, illustration, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture. Pieces will be displayed in the various studio buildings on campus.

KCAI alumni to shine at Carter Art Center, starting Nov. 5

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Oct. 20, 2010) —Work by 19 alumni of the Kansas City Art Institute will be on view when “In the Moment,” an exhibition celebrating the college’s 125th anniversary, opens with a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Nov. 5 at the Carter Art Center at MCC-Penn Valley, 3201 Southwest Trafficway. There also will be a closing reception at the Carter Art Center from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 3, beginning with a gallery talk at 6 p.m. with participating artists and the exhibition curator.

Exhibition to open in KCAI Alumni Gallery

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Oct. 15, 2010) –– Paintings by Kansas City Art Institute alumnus Robert Blunk, who graduated in 1950 with a bachelor of fine arts degree in painting, will be displayed in the Alumni Gallery in Vanderslice Hall on the KCAI campus from Nov. 1 to Nov. 30. The exhibition, which coincides with Veterans Day on Nov. 11, will include nine paintings by Blunk dating from 1949 to 2010. The gallery is open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

KCAI ceramics exhibition “(Re)Form” opens Oct. 8 at the H&R Block Artspace at KCAI

(Sept. 14, 2010) — “(Re)Form,” an exhibition that explores recent work by graduates of the KCAI ceramics program from the late 1960s to the present, will be on view from Oct. 9 to Dec. 18 at the H&R Block Artspace at the Kansas City Art Institute, 16 E. 43rd St. The exhibition opens with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8.

Bring your creativity to “The Big Draw”

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Aug. 27, 2010) – Want to get the creative juices flowing? Then check out “The Big Draw” on Saturday, Sept. 11. Drawing activities for all ages will be offered from noon to 5 p.m. at the H&R Block Artspace at the Kansas City Art Institute, 16 E. 43rd St.

Intended for the whole family, “The Big Draw” will feature five artist-led sessions where participants will learn about a variety of drawing styles and approaches. Materials will be provided. Several of the artists are KCAI alumni.
