"People's Choice" awards go to five special cars seen at the Fifth Annual Art of the Car Concours®

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (July 6, 2011) — Some 5,000 visitors who attended the Fifth Annual Art of the Car Concours® on June 26 had a special obligation: Pick a favorite vehicle from among nearly 200 on view that day, and vote for that vehicle. The top five vote-getters would receive “People’s Choice” awards. Although many found it difficult to pick just one, Concours attendees turned in their ballots by the 2 p.m. deadline, and, when the votes were counted, the following five winners were announced:

KCAI to host fifth annual Art of the Car Concours® on June 26

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (June 16, 2011) - The fifth annual Art of the Car Concours®, featuring more than 180 vintage, classic and special-interest vehicles, including cars, trucks, racing cars and vintage motorcycles belonging to collectors from eight states, will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 26 on the campus of the Kansas City Art Institute, 4415 Warwick Blvd. Vehicles from Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Texas, Colorado, Iowa, North Carolina and Oklahoma will be on view.

Kathleen Collins named president emeritus of Kansas City Art Institute

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (May 25, 2011) — Kathleen Collins, president of the Kansas City Art Institute since 1996, will become president emeritus of the college following her retirement on June 30. She is the first person in the college’s 125-year history to receive the president emeritus title.

“I am deeply honored to be recognized in this way,” Collins said at farewell reception May 18, when Bill Zahner, chair of the college’s board of trustees, made the announcement.

KCAI professor wins Fulbright Award

Diana Heise, special assistant professor in photography and digital filmmaking at the Kansas City Art Institute, has won a 2012 Fulbright Award in Creative and Performing Arts. The title of her project is ”Free Form: Challenging Oppression Through Creativity in Mauritius.” 

Emerging artists to show and sell work at end-of-semester exhibition and sale

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (April 22, 2010) –– The Kansas City Art Institute’s end-of-semester exhibition and sale, showcasing contemporary student artwork in a wide range of media, will take place May 6–8. The exhibition and sale will feature two- and three-dimensional work by students in the departments of ceramics, digital filmmaking, fiber, graphic design, illustration, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture. Pieces will be displayed in the various studio buildings on campus. Work can be purchased beginning at 5 p.m.

Work by graduating seniors to be on view at H&R Block Artspace at KCAI

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (April 12, 2011) – Artwork by candidates for the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the Kansas City Art Institute will be on view in the “2011 B.F.A. Exhibition” from April 16 to May 14 at the H&R Block Artspace at KCAI, 16 E. 43rd St. A closing reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 13. Readings from the “Compendium 2011,” a compilation of writings by graduating seniors, will take place at noon on Friday, May 14.

H&R Block Artspace presents new Project Wall by Romanian artist Dan Perjovschi

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (April 5, 2011) – A new Artspace Project Wall has been installed at the H&R Block Artspace at the Kansas City Art Institute. Romanian artist Dan Perjovschi’s cartoon-like drawing, “Relax, I Protect You!,” was selected from five drawings proposed by the artist for this project.

Art critic Jerry Saltz to speak at KCAI commencement

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (March 30, 2011) — Noted art critic Jerry Saltz will be the featured speaker at the Kansas City Art Institute’s 2011 commencement ceremony. The event will take place at 2 p.m. May 14 at the Unity Temple on the Country Club Plaza, 707 W. 47th St. Approximately 117 seniors will receive their Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees from KCAI.

KCAI and North Kansas City schools to offer dual-credit program in art

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Feb. 15, 2011) — The Kansas City Art Institute and the North Kansas City School district have joined together to provide dual-credit studio art classes for North Kansas City high school students. The program will launch this fall. It will be the first time KCAI has partnered with area high schools to offer a dual-credit program. 

Dr. Jacqueline Chanda named president of the Kansas City Art Institute

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Feb. 3, 2011) — Jacqueline Chanda, Ph.D., academic dean of the Institute for American Universities and director of the Aix Center in Aix-en-Provence in France, has been appointed president of the Kansas City Art Institute, effective July 1, L. William Zahner, chair of the KCAI board of trustees, announced today.
