Curriculum
Portraiture
While students love self-portraits, most feel frustrated with their ability to accurately create them - without the aid of a photograph. This intensive course will teach not only the fundamentals enabling students to be able to draw themselves from a mirror, but will also give them confidence in their ability to be successful. Ultimately, this self-confidence will empower them in their art making in the future. All materials will be supplied with the exception of a mirror (at least 8x10), a portable light and extension cord.
Date: June 13, 14 and 15
Time: Friday, June 13; 5:30-9:30 p.m. and
Saturday and Sunday, June 14 and 15; 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Location: TBA
Instructor: Pat Nemchock
Materials Fee: $10
Creating a Successful Portfolio
An intensive weekend course on innovative techniques and problem solving skills will be the focus of this class for all levels of portfolio development, especially IB and AP. We will investigate resources, materials and practices that elevate higher levels of success and competence. Learn how creative corporate teams come up with ideas, so necessary for a student’s successful portfolio.
Bring along your favorite drawing/painting supplies (chalk, pastels, watercolor, pencils, grease pencils all work well).
Date: July 11, 12 and 13
Time: Friday, July 11; 5:30-9:30 p.m. and
Saturday and Sunday, July 12 and 13; 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Location: TBA
Instructor: Harriet Bigham
Projected Identities: A Contemporary Art Education Workshop
This is an interdisciplinary course for art educators who wish to explore ways of bringing together traditional art-making processes of drawing and painting with emerging medias of digital and projected imagery. In “Projected Identities,” learners fuse hand art-making processes with digital image manipulations and projected imagery in a series of exploratory artistic self-examinations. The purpose of this approach is to embed layers of autobiographical meaning and image by joining written reflections into a visual manifestation of personal memory and identity.
Students will need to bring a digital camera, camera card for their camera, a USB card reader for their card and a 1MB flash drive on which to save their information. A tripod is also recommended. Also bring along your favorite drawing/painting supplies (chalk, pastels, watercolor, pencils, grease pencils all work well).
Date: July 28 - August 1
Time: Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Location: KCAI, Irving Bldg., Room 111
