Keith Buchanan
Keith received his B.F.A. in design from KCAI and his MDes in human centered product design from the Institute of Design, Illinois Institure of Technology. He is also an adjunct instructor in the School of Design at KCAI, and runs his family's buiness, Temple Slug Futons.
Jean Burbank
Jean Burbank has had a life-long interest in art and design. She is currently working as a full time graphic designer at a Lee's Summit company. After a rewarding career as a Unix system administrator, she decided to follow her dream and pursue a career in an art/design field. She graduated with honors from Maryville University and later from the Art Institute of Dallas. She has held positions both as a graphic designer and as a design team lead.
Ryan Hembree
Ryan Hembree is principal and creative director of Indicia Design, a nationally recognized and award-winning graphic design firm specializing in visual identity development and design. He is the author of "The Complete Graphic Designer," and an instructor of design at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and the Kansas City Art Institute. His work has been recognized by the Ad Club of Kansas City, the American Graphic Design Awards, the American Institute of Graphic Artists (AIGA), the Austin Advertising Federation and has been featured in several publications and design annuals. He is the recipient of the 2006 Rising Star Award from the International Association of Business Communicators, Kansas City chapter.
Joe Hoffman
Joe Hoffman is a graphic designer who first begain to appreciate the intricacies of visual communication at the age of six while pondering the dichotomy of the cold, flat, gray hamburger on a tray in front of him versus the steamy, plump and colorful burger gleefully towering above him on a McDonald's illuminated menu board. As well as being a member of the KCAI staff, Joe is currently the eMedia Design Manager for a leading BtoB trade publication based in Overland Park. As a 12+ years professional, he has operated under several other titles including lead designer, art director and senior interative designer. Plast clients have included projects for Disney, IBM/Crayola, Hasbro Interactive, Sierra Studios, Activision and National Geographic Video. Joe graduated from KCAI with a B.F.A in design (emphasis in illustration). His answer to the question, "What's art?" is simple..."What isn't?"
Jeff Irvine
Jeff Irvine is currently an art directior at VML, a traditional/interactive ad agency that is considered to be one of the leaders of the digital space. Prior to moving back to the Midwest, Jeff worked as a senior designer for both the Discovery Channel and National Geographic in Washington, DC. While at the Discovery Channel, he earned two Bronze Broadcast Design Association awards for his work on two different html/e-newsletter campaigns. It was also at this time that Jeff earned a Certificate in After Effects from George Washington University. His expertise includes conceptual design and development of projects for print, Web and motion graphics.
Joel Jenkins
Joel Jensins is a story-teller. He enjoys using his imagination to help people laugh, inspire learning and look beyond their everyday lives. As a producer and writer, Joel created What's Your Story, Kid?, and in-school residency that nurtures children's sotrytelling skills through filmmaking. Joel has produced and edited programming for numerous national clients includig Lucasfilm and The White House. He received his certification in children's television production at the Maine Workshops and has taught at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and KCAI.
Brian Landers
Brian currently leads the product design and strategy team within the user experience and emerging products group at Sprint. He directs the design of mobile, Web and software user interfaces. He has played a strategic role in the design of numerous products and services offered by Sprint including wireless data and personalization, Sprint Web site, digital media, messaging and several of Sprint's data services. Prior to joining Sprint, he held design positions at Autodesk, Inc., Cactus Software and Punch Software. The diversity of his design projects include user interfaces, product identity, retail packaging, electronic instrucitonal design, product and service and design and semiotics. Brian is a graduate of KCAI.
Bryan Ratliff
Bryan Ratliff is a 1996 graduate of KCAI. He has over 11 years experience in designing, producing and directing multimedia projects for clients. providing creative solutions developed for Web, CD-ROM, DVD and video. He is team lead for HNTB where he focuses on design for marketing communications, interactive public involvement and information, as well as Web site design management. His work has been recognized as a Yahoo site of the week and a Mirror UK site of the week. His work also received a 2005 National Marketing Communications Award (SMPS), a 2006 IABC Gold Quill Excellence Award and was featured ina four-page spread in Taiwan's design and creative magazine, XFUNS."
Katrina Schulze
Katrina Schulze is a graphic designer whose love of design began in high school when she fell in love with signage and typography...because one can never get enough bubble letters in high school. Since starting her own design studio in 2005, she now splits her time between teaching at KCAI in the School of Design and the DDP Certificate Program and working with clients such as KCAI, Truman Medican Center Charitable Foundation and Robyn Nichols Studio. Katrina has worked for Hallmark Cards, MMG Worldwide, Boasberg Wheeler Communications and West Creative. She has been honored with design awards both locally and nationall. Katrina holds a B.F.A. from KCAI.
