Computer Animation

This workshop for high school students ages 15-18 will focus on digital animation, specifically using the Adobe After Effects program as your medium of choice. Class demos and lectures are held from 10 a.m. - noon. Studio time is held from 1-3 p.m. Experience in Photoshop (image editing software) is encouraged but not required. An exhibition will be held at the conclusion. Bring a pencil and notebook to class, all other supplies included.

This intensive focuses on the creative aspects of fashion design. A series of assignments will challenge you to employ non-traditional techniques for the creation of apparel. Sewing skills will be helpful but are not necessary. An exhibition will be held at the conclusion. Most supplies are included, though you may wish to buy additional fabric. In addition, each student must bring a pair of eight-inch sewing sheers and see-through ruler.

Full days of painting will be divided between color mixing and theory with perceptual projects, and other projects that springboard from investigating what is currently happening in the painting world, plus forecasting possible future directions. This unique course provides a working understanding of the famous color theories of noted 20th century painter and teacher, Josef Albers. This class is a must for anyone working with color - not only painters but also specialists working in the fields of graphic design, interior design and fashion. You will discover the principles underlying our visual perception of colors. Students will learn how color can respond like a chameleon to its surrounding, take on kinetic characteristics or create the illusion of space and perspective. Individually, you will perform your own creative experiments, using a palette of several hundred colors contained in special sets of printed paper swatches. Learn how to break down the human figure into its simplest form by using basic shapes. Circles, cylinders and triangles all can be used to draw the figure. Discover new techniques for color application and techniques in weaving. You will learn about color, prepare and dye your own yarn and use your dyed yarn in a weaving project. The fundamentals of dyeing, including gradation dyeing with 100 per cent cellulose yarn using MX fiber-reactive dyes, will be covered in depth. The techniques you will learn will give you a foundation for developing your own style of dyeing and the confidence to duplicate the results in your own space either at home or in your studio. Shibori is the ancient Japanese art of tie-dye. Woodworking: European Low Relief Wood Carving

Learn the techniques to create a European inspired low relief wood carving. Using traditional English methods you will carve and detail a fish sculpture. You will be encouraged to make the project your own, but the basic project will be a skirted table. A supply list will be provided at the first class. Please note, shop is not air conditioned.
