Screen printing Notecards XPRI 125-01-SP
Discover the versatile world of screen printing. In this class you can layer images, add personal touches and create using your own inspiration. At the end of class you will have a set of handcrafted notecards personally designed and printed.

What changes do you want to make to your gardens after the contemplation of the winter time? Spring is the perfect opportunity to explore new design, color and installation techniques. Painting: Flowers and Still Life in Oil XPAI 235-80-SP
Learn how to capture flowers and still life on the canvas. You will learn to observe objects/settings with painter’s eyes. Instructions include color, value, drawing and composition. This class is for artists who want to push beyond traditional art forms and explore new realms of possibilities in their paintings. Anyone who is interested in mixing painting, drawing, collage, photography, printmaking or computer images into their paintings is welcome. Love to draw and design and want to see your imagery MOVE? Since Flash files use vector graphics they are lightweight and easy to work with on your own computer, and they're easy to upload to the Internet. Bring your passion to learn to make technologically savvy art. Bring a pencil, notebook and flash drive to class, all other supplies included. At the end of the class you will take your digital drawing tablet home to continue your art!

Digital Art Intensive HIPA 120-01-SU NEW
Here is the way of the future for illustration and design. Draw and design with color, pattern and strong composition-all on your computer! You will create with the aid of a drawing tablet, adjust your digital photos, collage your imagery, compose text, understand how to prep your digital art for Web or print. You will upload your art to the Internet, as well as create your own files (saved to your flash drive) suited to printing at home or a printing service. At the end of the class you will take your digital drawing tablet home to continue your art!

Drawing Intensive for Your Portfolio XYPH 035-41-SU NEW
Build the basics required for a strong college portfolio. We will focus on observational drawing, building, self portraits and still life compositions-the basics every college wants to see in a portfolio. Get ready to impress the college review panels!

Fashion Design Intensive HFIB 110-01-SU
Taught by KC designer Peggy Noland, this intensive focuses on the creative aspects of fashion design. A series of assignments will challenge you to employ nontraditional techniques for the creation of apparel. Sewing skills will be helpful but are not necessary. Most supplies are included, though you may wish to buy additional fabric. Each student must bring a pair of 8-inch sewing sheers and see-through ruler.

Painting Intensive HIPA 110-01-SU
For ambitious high school juniors and seniors with prior visual art experience, spend an intensive week immersed in pursuit of painting and realize your personal, contemporary vision as you build your portfolio. Full days of painting will be divided between color mixing and theory with perceptual projects. Previous beginning art courses and experience with painting is recommended. Examples from your new body of paintings will be exhibited at the conclusion. Supplies included.

This is the course for you if you are interested in building your portfolio for the college level. In this course, we will work on composition and observational drawing, building to larger scale drawings. We will also discuss the college admission and application process as well as the techniques for capturing and sharing portfolio images.

Realistic Rendering and Beyond XYDR 032-40-SU

Black and White to Color XDDR 267-80-SU
This comprehensive course will present six different drawing mediums (dry and wet) including charcoal, pencil, conte, ink, pastels and colored pencils. This visually oriented class will consider the aesthetic and technical aspect of each medium primarily through study of the figure, and it may also include still life and portrait studies. Taught by Lee Judge, political cartoonist for the Kansas City Star, you will learn to create cartoon ideas and then execute those ideas visually. Watercolor is one of the worlds favorite mediums. In this class, beginning and intermediate students will explore the basics of watercolor painting. Techniques such as the use of washes, color design and the addition of texture (through push and pull, direct addition of cloth and splatter) will enhance your knowledge of the uses of this medium. This beginning class takes you from the basics of exposure, manipulation of depth of field and shutter speeds to the ultimate goal of creating compelling photographs. Intentional Photography XPHO 276 -80-SU
This course will offer a comprehensive guide to photography, teaching you how to get what you want in your photographs-not what your camera thinks you need. Together we will survey the principles and mechanics of photography starting with the basics of exposure, various types of light including flash and different types of equipment, such as lenses. We will also explore composition in-depth, discovering what makes a photograph great.

Learn the tools and techniques available in Photoshop to manipulate and create your photos. We will explore direct images and artistic interpretations of your image.
