Campus Technology and academic computing

Computer

KCAI recognizes the importance of technology as a part of the educational experience. Campus Technology works closely with academic departments to develop recommendations and requirements for students who purchase computers for use in their academic careers. The following points should assist students and parents in making decisions regarding the purchase of computers.

Public access labs are available for students in the Jannes Library, and the Student Living Center (foundation students). These labs feature Apple computers and have campus standard software from Microsoft (Productivity Suite) and Adobe (CS3) installed throughout.

Departmental labs are maintained in all upper-level departments, again featuring Apple computers and campus-standard software from Microsoft (Productivity Suite) and Adobe (CS3).

Students in the design and animation programs are required at the beginning of their sophomore year to purchase an Apple laptop. (download this PDF: "Why an Apple LapTop?") An Apple Store Web site is available for making purchases online.

For students who are not required to purchase a computer but who choose to purchase to enhance their educational experience, Campus Technology recommends the purchase of an Apple computer via the KCAI on-line Apple Store (link avaible through the KCAI student Web registration page) or a computer from Dell or Gateway.
