Academic support services
Students enrolled at KCAI have a range of learning styles and abilities. A learning specialist helps students gain a more complete understanding of individual learning styles, skills, strengths and weaknesses to cope with the greater demands of college courses. Assistance is available through study groups and one-on-one tutoring sessions to improve students' reading, writing, study, testing and time-management skills. Students are encouraged to develop a healthy balance between the various aspects of their lives, and suggestions are provided for developing skills for self-advocacy. Support is available for the particular needs of students whose first language is not English.
Disability services provides assistance to students with physical, psychological, ADD/ADHD and learning disabilities who are eligible for reasonable accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Accommodations are made on a case by case basis and professional documentation of the disability is required. It is important that notification of needs be presented in a timely manner. The sooner a request is made, the sooner arrangements can be made.

Learning disability services
The Kansas City Art Institute is committed to supporting the needs and rights of students with alternative learning styles and documented learning disabilities. We will make every effort to provide reasonable accommodations and support for qualified students with disabilities to ensure they reach their potential.
DOCUMENTATION:
Students with disabilities will be asked to provide recent clinical documentation before receiving services. Clinical evaluations must be done by a licensed psychologist, education specialist, or physician within the past three years and must contain specific academic recommendations. It is the responsibility of the student to arrange and pay for all diagnostic testing.
